(-____-)

I have never felt like anything has spoken to me more than the documentary that I watched last night. It was called "In Debt We Trust: Amierca Before the Bubble Bursts." As you can guess from the title, it's about America's dependence on borrowed money or credit. It's cool too because this was made in 2006, kind of right at the point where the economy started getting shitty. The part that was like "Hey Jacob. Listen. This is you." the most was when they talked about credit cards and college freshmen. How credit card companies want do get kids dependent on credit as soon as possible. They had an expert talking about the recommended maximum for a newly independent college student should be $500 a month. When I opened my credit card account, they started me with a $2,500 limit. And I was all, "Hell yeah, give me that money." When I got it too, I had already opened a checking and savings account, which I had opened right when I got to SF. One day I was just depositing a check at the counter (at the time, for some archaic reason, I didn't trust depositing checks into the atm. I felt better when I would hand my check over to a real person instead of it being eaten by robot) and the teller said that I was elegible for a credit card account that had really good (insert whatever bank acronyms). So now I have it and I have good/average/bad/not sure credit. In the movie, they talked about one girl who lied about her income on the credit card application and got a card with a $10,000 limit. Out of almost all of my friends, I'm the only one that I can think of that has money problems, so this movie was like a therapy session for me. Another thing about this film. After watching it, my interest in Socialiasm and Communism grew. I'm currently reading The Communist Manifesto so that has a lot to do with it. It just sounds so perfect! Only a few people know this about me but I am super super super impressionable. So really, if you have a good arguement or seem to have one, I'll be on your side. Along with that book, I'm also reading The Gnostics, a book about Gnosticsm, the scriptures that were left out of the Bible. This characteristic is not so bad alone but when you're a history major, conspiracies and revisions just seem so true! 911 was a result of the American governement needing a reason to invade Iraq and secure oil barrles. The Holocaust. . .okay I'm going to stop here. I don't know how I got from talking about this movie to communism to my gullibleness to Revisionist History. Here are some pictures of the house mom.

  1. Dude, you moved?

On the credit thing, I for one don't believe in it. Obviously, our parents use it and without it, we wouldn't have it as easy as we do, but ultimately, the system isn't necessary. "Living within means", well, "living", really, has somehow become so subjective. The world can't seem to survive without excess.
