Yaaa, Sunday! Unofficial update blog day. A lot has been going on in October. Hmm, where should I start. . . I got sick. Like really really need antibiotics sick. Good thing it was when my mom and sister decided to visit me. If they hadn't been there I probably wouldn't have this bottle of Nyquil and Vicks vapor rub on top of an upside down crate next to my bed and half shelf full of medicine. I still haven't gone to the doctor on account of the weekend and I probably still won't on account of my laziness. Mom and Shelly visited me for a couple of days last week and they came during the biggest storm in a long time. The papers said something like 50 years I think. Of course they wanted to go shopping at Union Square during the hurricane but with a newly filled to the max fridge, I can't complain. Since I got sick I didn't go to my internship this week and I was only scheduled to work Thursday and today so I had two days off in row. I don't think I've ever been more grateful for anything in my life. I seriously slept at least 12 hours each night and made really good meals at home. I got so jealous at people who just have days off and don't have to set an alarm to wake up and do whatever they want. Before I went to sleep on the night before I had to go back to work (last night), I was thinking about running away to South America or something. Just so my day off last longer. But then I thought about what a financial burden I'd be if I did that, like paying rent with Kevin and Hank or tuition and stuff. Speaking of debt and credit, I'm going to see the new Michael Moore movie about capitalism with my history class on Wednesday. Ugggh, Wednesday sounds soo far away. I have soo much stuff to do for tomorrow and Tuesday.
I'm not sure what to do for Thanksgiving. I can stay here, work and celebrate with my friends. Or I can celebrate with Hank and his family in Portland. I really want to go to Portland just to see the city and be in a part of this continent that I haven't been before. I also want to experience a normal "American" Thanksgiving dinner. Like the kinds in movies and the Bible. BUT, getting up to the Northwest is a problem. Plane tickets cost over $300. Hell no. Train and bus are significantly cheaper but it would take about 16-20 something hours, I think, to get there. We'd have to leave on Wednesday. Probably get there right before dinner on Thursday. Hang out on Friday and then leave on Saturday to get back here by Sunday. If I stayed here, at least I'd work and make money, But I also really want to go to Portland. If I went, it would mean 4 days off from work and school. These last two were already intensely gratifying. But then again, do I really deserve a break? I don't know what to do.
Things that have broken:
- My tiny Acer netbook laptop. =( I was really bummed about this. I'm sure it's still under warranty but I don't know when I'll have to time to actually call and talk to IT people about it. Ugghhh, another thing to add to my to do list.
- My headphones. Just happened today!!!! You know when one side always goes out and you have to jiggle the wire and stuff, yeah mines doing that. I got really fussy when I realized what was going on.
The Japan English Teaching or JET applications are due November 24th. I think I'm going to apply. I know that as soon as I graduate, I want to go somewhere. Hopefully through teaching English somewhere. I don't really care about going to Japan again, it's just that those applications are due the earliest. Scratch that, I guess I care about going to Japan, but only out of familiarity, since I've been there before. But I really want to go to other places like Hong Kong, Beijing, Taiwan, Korea. I plan to apply to teach English at all of those places. So exciting. It's something to help me get through these last semesters. After coming to the realization that I suck at being a student and I'm not as smart as I thought I was, doing school work has become way harder. Which is why these last semesters will probably be my hardest ones ever. Uggghhh.
I forgot to pick up my pictures from Wal Greens. Ugggghhhhhhh . . .
What the no pictures? I didn't know Walgreens does that.
ReplyDeleteAs for the stress, do what I do. Google one of the Arnold soundboards and mash the "Stop whining!" button.
PORTLAND
ReplyDeleteokay, i wanna say portland. BUT ya know, tickets to seattle get way cheap later. like, if you go next semester, or buy tickets earlier, it'll be like $120 roundtrip. and chances are that the weather will be better. Isn't it ridiculous how much it costs to fly so close? if i wanted to go home for thanksgiving it would cost me $440. To go 500 miles! Like i could go to new york for that much. anyway.
