I feel that out of all of the places that I have stayed in Japan, the number one place that my mom would not approve of is the place that I am in right now. I don't even know what this place is called as Minami and Minako helped me find, book and check in but it is located in Asakusa. This is the cheapest that I have payed for a place at only 3,200 yen a night which is about $32. Even the capsules that I stayed in last time were a bit more at $40, $35 with a coupon. Even though it's cheaper than the capsules, this tiny ass room contains a bathroom, television, air condition, a window, and beautiful painting on the wall. The bathroom is pretty normal. There are two seperate toilet paper dispensers right on top of each other but other than that, while you're in the bathroom, you don't feel like you're staying in the ugliest room ever. The TV costs $1 for 10 hours of watching time. So cheap but for so long!! I wonder if people try to get the most out of their $1 and watch tv for a whole ten hours. But that would be impossible as the tv is literally as big as my hand. Maybe in around 1991, the tv looked nice but now it just has that been out in the sun for too long gray color. I only call this thing in fron of my face an air conditioner because I would feel dumb to call such a huge thing a fan and would rather lie to myself and pretend that the air has become cooler. It's about the size of a 36 inch flat screen tv and almost a foot wide. It rests on the ground and has that faux retro shitty wood look. It's seriously just a huge fan. I don't feel any cooler at all and I really want to leave the window open while I sleep but since there's no screen, cicadas and mosquitos will surely attack me. The room reminds me too much of the room in Juon/Grudge. Everything just looks old and stale. My room is at the end of a short hallway and it just so happens that the light bulb flickers on and off, like straight out of the movie kind. I am the almost exact same height as the door which is not even that tall. There are only two outlets, so sometimes if I want to charge my phone or camera battery at the same time, I have to sacrifice the ac/fan.

Sept 14 update: Almost done with these journal entries. I'm just that I am always busy. I feel like this semester will be my most busiest semester ever. Right now @ 4:30am, I should be doing a paper that is due this evening. I have work at levis Thursday - Sunday, usually 8 hour shifts. An internship that I go to at least 8 hours a week. Monday - Wednesday, is school time. I am at school from 9am - 9pm; classes and work at the library. Don't forget homework and sleep. Jesus, it hasn't even been one month and I'm complaining so hard. There aren't enough hours in the day and all my to-do lists are piling up.

  1. It's called a large calendar or large dry erase board to write on.
