Look at this $20.

I traded it out of the register a couple of days ago at work. I always notice old bills when I'm working as a cashier, but this one was way different than any bill I've handled before. I thought it was fake. It was way too different.

YEAH. 1934!!!! Here are some things that happened in 1934.

• Bonnie and Clyde are gunned down
• Huge dust storms in the Dust Bowl of the Midwest
• Alcatraz opens as a prison
• Donald Duck appears for the first time
• THE MUTHA FUCKING NEW DEAL PASSED BY FDR

This, of course, leads to an interesting history of US money. For example, modern bills say This note is legal tender for all debits, public and private, but this bill says This note is legal tender for all debts, public and private, and is redeemable in lawful money at the United States Treasury, or at any Federal Reserve Bank. There is no In God We Trust on the back of this note; and the words Will Pay the Bearer On Demand Twenty Dollars appear on the front.

Its an interesting thought that the $20 bill did not intrinsically have any worth, but merely represented worth that existed somewhere else.

I've been pretty stoked on this find. I'm going to frame this.
