Grandma and Grandpa Bautista

I've always known that my grandpa was in the Korean war, mainly through the few or so pictures of him around their house. I've never talked to him about it until about last week when I was home. I tried asking him if he remembered but didn't know what the hell I was talking about. Then I showed him a picture on the wall to which he then brought out an old photo album that had pictures from his time in the military. I wanted to ask a lot of questions but didn't want to ask anything too loaded so I just kept it simple. He was in the military for eight years, some of it in the front lines in Korea and the rest going all over Europe. I have to say, he dressed pretty fresh back in the day. I don't know why this is my point of reference and I don't know if this is the appropriate time, but he would fit right in in Back To The Future when Marty McFly goes to his parents prom and they dance all crazy-like. But he'd be Filipino. Which means he'd probably be outside as they wouldn't let him in. I think my mom said that he'll be 83 this year? and my grandma 79? Something like that. So nuts. While grandpa was away my grandma was at home in the Phillipines (I think) with my Aunty Ester and my dad. She wasn't as enthusiastic about getting her picture taken like grandpa.

  3. Aw I really love this entry. I never met my grandpa but my "nana" played an influential role in my life. Without her I wouldn't have learned to understand ilocano! Your g-pa is so photogenic, I guess looking fresh is in your family genes. Your g-ma is just modest, she probably likes getting her picture taking but in the more artsy fartsy form.

    Love the pictures :)
