I've been reading about this for a while. Not for school or anything, just for whatevers. I think it's cool how ambassadors from 200 countries have gathered in Denmark to talk about global warming. 200 countries?! And it's not like they're just sending their whatever nobody scientists, also expected to attend are the actual presidents and leaders of the countries. Here's a list of all the participating countries. They even included the little island countries who are expected to be underwater due to rising sea levels. Who knows if they really care about these islands with a combined population of 7 but they still invited them, which is cool. I don't know what they expect to achieve or how they even plan to get past politics when there are 200 COUNTRIES INVOLVED! But hopefully, they can get past the bickering (which will probably be 99% of the time) and get something done. I just imagine how it was like when my parents were my age and how much has change since then. Like huge American gas guzzlers or two can aqua net hairstyles. Doesn't it make sense to assume that that there will be the same amount or maybe even greater change when I am the age that my parents are now? All this global warming stuff IS going to be a part of that change. To me, thirty years seems like forever. Like I can not even fathom what I will be doing when I am in my fifties. Which is why I think some people don't care. But when you look at it with a (pretentious mode: on) historical lens, thirty years is nothing. When I think about the 70's or 80's it doesn't seem that far away, yet looking thirty years into the future is almost impossible for me. I guess being a history major has made me try to look as far into the future as much as I look into the past. And I'm not trying to say everyone should drive less or do whatever is considered "green" because I know that I don't really do that. I guess I'm just trying to say to get the thought in your head to care. People rarely ponder about why they do things. At least think about it and choose to care or not care instead of just doing. You know what I mean? (pretentious mode: still on)
